Passive

Passive products description

Call Flow’s set of passive wholesale products allows a CP to use Call Flow owned duct, poles and chambers between CP POP and end user for the purpose of supporting their investment in new Next Generation Access (NGA) networks and no other purpose. The passive products are not permitted for use to construct CP core or backhaul networks.

Schematic Diagrams

Enables a CP to install their own fibre bundle (typically up to 12 fibres) within Call Flow’s BFT for their own NGA deployment, where the route does not transit the sections of Call Flow’s network that already use BT Openreach PIA.

  • Spine BFT. The main BFT infrastructure running from the Call Flow POP to a distribution point close to the end-user premises. Under the BFT share product, CPs are granted a licence to install a fibre bundle for the spine part of their NGA network deployment within Call Flow’s BFT.
  • Lead-in BFT. This is the BFT between the last distribution point and the end user premises.

Dark Fibre sharing product

Enables a CP to rent their own fibre within Call Flow’s fibre network for their own NGA deployment.

  • Dark Fibre. An unused (dark) fibre between two points with Call Flow’s network (that does not transit BT Openreach PIA).

Pole sharing product

The pole sharing product allows CPs to attach their cables, manifolds and aerials to Call Flow’s poles for the deployment of an NGA network. Pole access allows CPs to use poles that provide the radio/fibre distribution to customer premises or carry fibres/aerials between distribution points and the spine network. Some poles will provide both functions.

  • Pole Access. Under the pole share product, Call Flow will grant a CP a licence to attach and maintain a drop fibre cable or aerial attachment or pole top equipment (in support of the fibre cable or aerial equipment) to one of Call Flow’s existing poles in compliance with specified engineering rules and health and safety standards as part of their NGA network deployment. A CP will be charged as appropriate for the CPs usage of the pole which may be to provide an attachment to a CPs individual customer or to provide an attachment for serving multiple customers, plus running cables up and down poles and fitting pole top equipment.

Other passive products

  • Chambers. With the exception of in line splices and spine fibre cable coils, a CP must put their underground equipment (including splitter nodes, aggregation nodes and fibre DPs) in a CPs own jointing chambers; this includes any splitter nodes that may fit in similar housings to in line splices. CPs need to do this to avoid congestion or disturbance within Call Flow’s network and vice versa.
  • Duct construction and break in product. A CP will be allowed to ‘break in’ to Call Flow’s network at joint boxes using industry standard ‘core drill’ techniques.
  • Other. CP can request a variety of other ‘enabling works/information’, including network information, duct unblocking, new infrastructure. All of these are charged separately.

Ordering procedure

Orders for passive wholesale products are made using a Customer Request Form (CRF) spreadsheet based process. This mirrors the BT Openreach PIA process insofar as is reasonably possible.
